The Soun of Ogbomosoland, Oba Gbandi Afolabi Olaoye, Orumogege III, has paid a courtesy visit to the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) headquarters in Abuja and advocated the establishment of a study centre in the town.
Oba Olaoye who visited the NOUN headquarters in Abauja yesterday, made the request as a strategic move to expand educational opportunities for residents of Ogbomoso and its environs.
This was contained in an update on the official Facebook account of the monarch.
Accordingto the monarch, “The vision is rooted in opportunity and inclusiveness, aimed at expanding access to quality tertiary education for the sons and daughters of Ogbomosoland, irrespective of age or life circumstance.”
Reflecting on the progress made during the visit, Soun stated, ”I am encouraged by NOUN’s positive response and commitment to dispatch a delegation to Ogbomoso for an assessment. Upon meeting the required conditions, this long-held aspiration will become a reality.”
The monarch further emphasised the collective impact of this partnership, adding ”Together, we are laying sustainable pathways for learning, empowerment, and a brighter future for our people.”
Oba Olaoye was accompanied by a team of Ogbomoso indigenes and academics and scholars including Dr. Niran Oyekale, who facilitated the high-level engagement; Prof. Adeshola Adepoju, the Asiwaju of Ogbomosoland; Prof. Olugbemiro Jegede, the pioneer Vice-Chancellor of NOUN and son of Ogbomoso; as well as Prof. Christine Ofulue, Deputy Vice-Chancellor.
He appreciated the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olufemi A. Peters, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Christine Ofulue and his management team for their warm reception and hospitality.
