In every generation, certain individuals rise beyond business success and personal achievement to become symbols of hope for ordinary people. In Ogbomoso North, Ogbomoso South and Oriire Federal Constituency, many residents now see Dr. Kunle Samson Adegbite, popularly known Twindad, as one of such figures.
His declaration to contest for the House of Representatives seat on the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) may have added another name to the growing list of aspirants ahead of the 2027 general election, but to many grassroots residents, it represents something deeper. His emergence is that of a man whose public image has been shaped more by service than by political propaganda.
Long before politics came calling, Dr. Adegbite had already built a reputation as a philanthropist, healthcare professional, entrepreneur and community developer.
The US-based Nigerian, who holds a Doctorate in Nursing Practice (DNP) and is a Board Certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing Practitioner, has consistently used his professional success abroad to impact lives back home in Ogbomoso.
Perhaps the strongest symbol of his humanitarian efforts remains the Twindad Orphanage Home established in April 2022. The multimillion-naira facility was not merely built as a structure, but as a sanctuary for vulnerable children. With classrooms, dormitories, a sickbay and recreational facilities, the orphanage stands as a statement that compassion can still exist in a society where many leaders often remember the poor only during election periods.
Little wonder many admirers now refer to him as “Baba Awon Omo Kekere”, a title that reflects his visible commitment to children, widows, youths and the less privileged. In a political environment where slogans are abundant but meaningful impact is scarce, such a nickname was earned through action, not public relations.
True leadership, as many believe, is measured not by speeches but by the number of lives transformed. Dr. Kunle Adegbite has continued to demonstrate this philosophy through the activities of the Twindad Foundation.
From supporting grassroots football with sports equipment to empowering widows, assisting persons living with disabilities, and providing educational resources for children, his interventions have touched different segments of society.
In rural communities like Olokiti Tegbe, the commissioning of solar-powered boreholes and charging stations addressed practical needs that many elected office holders had ignored for years. For villagers struggling with access to clean water and electricity, such interventions are not ordinary donations; they are lifelines.
Adegbite’s growing popularity across the constituency is therefore not accidental. It is rooted in visibility, accessibility and consistent acts of generosity. This explains why his recent political declaration has generated conversations among youths and community stakeholders who believe representation should go beyond rhetoric.
Critics may argue that philanthropy alone does not automatically translate into effective governance, and they would not be entirely wrong. Politics requires strategy, legislative competence, negotiation skills and institutional understanding. However, it is equally true that compassion remains one of the most missing ingredients in Nigerian leadership today. A leader who already possesses empathy and a track record of community service may stand a better chance of understanding the struggles of the people.
Dr. Adegbite’s entry into the race also introduces an interesting dynamic to the political landscape of Ogbomoso. At a time when many citizens are becoming disillusioned with conventional politicians, candidates with independent grassroots credibility and humanitarian backgrounds are beginning to attract attention. Whether this momentum will eventually translate into electoral victory remains to be seen, but his emergence has undoubtedly expanded political conversations within the constituency.
The awards and recognitions he has received over the years — including the “Best Philanthropy Award of the Year 2023” in Dallas, Texas; “Distinguished Service Award”, and “Great Philanthropist Award” — further reinforce the public perception of a man deeply committed to humanity. Yet, beyond plaques and ceremonies, his greatest endorsement may still be the testimonies of ordinary people whose lives have been positively affected by his interventions.
As the 2027 election gradually approaches, voters in Ogbomoso North, Ogbomoso South and Oriire Federal Constituency will eventually decide the kind of representation they desire. For Dr. Kunle Adegbite, the challenge now is to convince the electorate that the compassion and generosity he has demonstrated through philanthropy can evolve into purposeful and effective legislative leadership.
Still, one thing appears certain: his political movement is being built around a narrative many people can relate with, service before self, empowerment for the people, and hope for a better future.
In the end, politics may be about numbers, structures and alliances, but history often remembers leaders who genuinely touched lives. That is the story many supporters believe Dr. Kunle Samson Adegbite is trying to write in Ogbomoso.
Service before self. Progress for all!
