In the academic community of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, one name continues to stand out for excellence in research and global impact. He is the most cited scholar in the institution. And for years consecutively, he has received rhe honour, always presented during the convocation/ founder’s day. He is Prof. Olugbenga Solomon Bello.
A Professor of Physical and Environmental Chemistry, Bello has carved a reputation as the institution’s most cited scholar for four consecutive years, a distinction that establishes both the quality and influence of his work.
Based in the Department of Pure and Applied Chemistry, Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences, Prof. Bello’s academic journey reflects a strong foundation and commitment to scientific advancement. He earned his Bachelor of Technology degree in Ogbomoso before proceeding to the University of Ibadan, where he obtained his M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry, completing the latter in 2008.
Over the years, his academic reach has extended beyond Nigeria, with affiliations at institutions such as the University of Science Malaysia and Landmark University.
At the core of Bello’s research is a focus on solving real-world environmental challenges. His work explores innovative and cost-effective methods for pollution control, particularly through the development of biomass-based adsorbents and activated carbon. These materials are designed to remove harmful substances, including dyes, gaseous pollutants, and pharmaceutical residues, from water and air, offering sustainable solutions to pressing environmental issues.
His contributions have not gone unnoticed. With over 11,000 citations and more than 150 scientific publications to his name, Bello has built a formidable presence in global research circles. His h-index of 63 further reflects the depth and consistency of his scholarly output.
Recognition has followed his impact. Prof. Bello is a recipient of awards and fellowships from The World Academy of Sciences, an international body that celebrates scientific excellence in developing countries. In 2019, he was also honoured with the prestigious Gold Medal of the Nigerian Academy of Science, one of the highest scientific recognitions in the country.
