The death a retired gallant and one of the foremost soilders of Ogbomoso origin, Col. Adegboyega Adeniran, has continued to generate tributes in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, Nigeria and across the world.
He died at the age of 87 years after a brief illness in the early hours of Friday at Bowen University Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, according to a family source.
In separate condolences shared with Pan-Nigerian News, the Majority Leader of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Sanjo Adedoyin; a politician, entrepreneour and philanthtopist, Hon. Bayo Akinyode; another politician and philanthtopist, Hon. Tosin Olanrewaju Adegun as well as a Prince Sunday Oyebamiji of Malegbe Ruling House of Osupa, all mourned the passage of the octogenatian known to have played critical role during the Civil War before 1967 and 1970.
According to Hon. Adedoyin, “There is no way that we will discuss Ogbomoso’s develoment without making reference to our father, Baba Col. Adegboyega Adeniran. Beyond his brilliant performance in the military, he was still a force to reckon with when it comes to education, agriculture, community, among others.
“I, therefore, on behalf of my family and the good people of Ogbomoso South State Constituency, commiserate with the family our Baba in thos period of mourning, eventhough he grew old and lived an impactful life. May Baba’s soul rest in peace.”
In his message of condolence, an indigene of Osupa in Ashipa Compound, Hon. Bayo Akinyode, expressed his heartfelt commiseration to the family of the deceased hero, the Onigba family in Osupa, Osupa community and Ogbomoso at large.
“I grew up even outside Ogbomoso to hear about how Ogbomoso was blessed with brilliant minds. One of such minds was our father, Col. Adegboyega Adeniran, who died today, 16th January, 2026 after a brif illness.
“The family house of Baba Col. Adeniran is just a stone-throw to ours in Osupa. May the soul of Late Col. Adeniran rest in peace,” Hon. Akinyode.
Hon. Tosin Olanrewaju Adegun, a politician, entrepreneur and philanthropist, also paid glowing tribute to the late elder statesman, describing his death as a great loss not only to Ogbomoso but to Nigeria at large.
According to Adegun, Col. Adegboyega Adeniran was a rare patriot whose life embodied discipline, sacrifice and service to humanity.
“Baba Col. Adeniran was a gallant officer, a community pillar and a proud son of Ogbomoso who devoted his life to the service of his country and his people. His contributions to national unity, particularly during the Civil War, as well as his post-retirement commitment to community development, education and agriculture, remain indelible,” Adegun said.
He extended his heartfelt condolences to the Adeniran family, the Osupa community and the entire Ogbomoso land, praying that God grants them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
Similarly, Prince Sunday Oyebamiji, a Prince of Osupa from the Malegbe Ruling House, mourned the passing of the respected octogenarian, describing him as an illustrious son and a symbol of pride for Osupa and Ogbomoso.
Prince Oyebamiji noted that the late Col. Adeniran lived a fulfilled life marked by honour, integrity and commitment to the progress of his people.
“Baba Col. Adegboyega Adeniran was more than a soldier; he was a mentor, a father figure and a rallying point for unity within Osupa and Ogbomoso at large.
“His legacies of service, humility and patriotism will continue to inspire generations yet unborn,” he stated.
He commiserated with the Adeniran family, the Osupa community and all those touched by the exemplary life of the departed elder, praying for the peaceful repose of his soul.
