The Soun of Ogbomosoland, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye, Orumogege III, has called for the establishment of ten additional police stations across Ogbomosoland as part of efforts to strengthen security and improve policing in the region.
The monarch made the appeal following a courtesy visit to the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, alongside Prof. Shola Adepoju, the Asiwaju of Ogbomosoland; Sir Olusegun Adekunle, the Ashipa of Ogbomosoland; Hon. Olusegun Odebunmi, the Okanlomo of Ogbomosoland; Lt. Col. Oyemade Oyewumi; and Rev. Niyi Adebayo
In a statement shared on his official Facebook page, Oba Olaoye said the delegation was warmly received by the police chief and engaged in productive discussions on issues affecting the security and future of Ogbomosoland.
“Our conversation was frank, constructive, and driven by our shared commitment to protecting lives and creating an environment where our people can thrive,” the monarch said.
He stressed that sustainable development could only be achieved in a secure environment, saying, “No meaningful development can take place without security. Security is the foundation upon which every prosperous society is built.”
The traditional ruler disclosed that he requested the establishment of ten additional police stations in strategic locations across Ogbomosoland, with adequate personnel and equipment to improve security coverage and response time to emergencies.
Oba Olaoye also appealed for the Police College in Ogbomoso to be made fully operational again.
“Such an institution will not only strengthen police capacity but also contribute significantly to the growth of our local economy and reinforce Ogbomoso’s strategic importance in national security development,” he stated.
He further assured the Inspector-General of the readiness of the people of Ogbomosoland to collaborate with the Nigeria Police Force through intelligence sharing, community policing, and other initiatives aimed at improving public safety.
The monarch also highlighted the plight of residents who remain in the custody of kidnappers, calling for intensified efforts to secure their freedom.
“We passionately appealed for every available resource and effort to be deployed towards securing their safe and speedy rescue. Every life is precious, and no family should have to endure the pain and uncertainty of waiting endlessly for their loved ones,” he said.
Expressing optimism after the meeting, Oba Olaoye said he was encouraged by the Inspector-General’s assurances and confident that stronger collaboration among security agencies, traditional institutions, government, and the people would help address the security challenges facing Ogbomosoland.
He urged residents to remain vigilant, cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information, and continue praying for peace across the land.
