The Global Alumni Association of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso has honoured outstanding graduating students with multi-million naira cash awards and recognitions across faculties and departments.
This was at the institution’s 18th convocation ceremony during the confernment of first degrees to graduands across 11 faculties.
The awards, sponsored by alumni bodies and notable individuals, celebrated academic excellence, with top-performing students receiving prizes ranging from ₦50,000 to ₦200,000.
Leading the pack was Oladepo Caleb Olugbenga of the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, who emerged as the overall best graduating student of the University with a grade point average of 4.89.
He received multiple awards, including the ₦200,000 Engr. Olalekan Badmus prize for the best graduating student in the university, alongside honours from the LAUTECH Alumni Association (Worldwide), its Canada Branch, and the EEE Class of ’05 Alumni.
Oladepo also clinched awards as the best graduating student in the Faculty of Engineering and Technology and the best graduating male student in the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering.
In the same department, Akinwande Salimat Oluwatobi, who graduated with a 4.51 GPA, was recognised as the best graduating female student.
Further highlighting his contributions, the President of the Global Alumni Association, Engr. Dr. Olalekan Badmus, sponsored several category-based awards, including ₦100,000 each for the best graduating students in the Faculties of Engineering and Technology, Pure and Applied Sciences, Management Sciences, Computing and Informatics, Basic Medical Sciences, Nursing Science, and Agricultural Sciences.
He also instituted a ₦100,000 award for the best graduating student in the Department of Computer Engineering.
Other top awardees included Okediji Oluwatoyin Awake of Chemistry (4.82 GPA), who led the Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences; Akintokun Elijah Victor of Accounting (4.83 GPA), best in Management Sciences; and Opakunle Deborah Eniola of Computer Science (4.82 GPA), who topped Computing and Informatics.
Mustapha Aminat Omolabake of Anatomy (4.61 GPA) and Agboola Ogooluwa Joshua of Nursing Science (4.60 GPA) emerged as the best graduating students in the Faculties of Basic Medical Sciences and Nursing Science respectively, while Abdul Kareem Mubarak Ayinla of Crop and Environmental Production (4.73 GPA) led Agricultural Sciences.
Also recognised were Edeki Ejiro Samuel of Architecture (4.61 GPA), best in Environmental Sciences; Agbalaya Jubril Ayomide of Economics (4.86 GPA), who topped Arts and Social Sciences; and Adetunji Oluwatosin Joy of Nutrition and Dietetics (4.71 GPA), best in Food and Consumer Sciences.
The immediate past President of the association, Hon. Solomon Onilede, also contributed to the recognition of academic excellence by sponsoring awards for the best graduating student in the Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences as well as the best graduating student in the Department of Physics.
The LAUTECH Alumni Association (Worldwide) and its Canada Branch equally played significant roles, with awards for the best, second-best, and third-best graduating students in the University.
The gesture establishes the sustained commitment of LAUTECH alumni to promoting academic excellence and rewarding outstanding performance among students.
