The acting Rector of Federal Polytechnic Ayede, Ogbomoso, Oyo State, Engr. Dr. Temilola Morufat Adepoju, has congratulated Nigerians on the occasion of the 2026 Democracy Day celebration, urging citizens to remain united and committed to the collective task of addressing the nation’s security challenges and promoting sustainable development.
Dr. Adepoju made the call in a Democracy Day message contained in a statement issued by the acting Director of the Centre for Information, Communication and Public Relations of the institution, Mr. Sunday Adepoju.
According to the acting Rector, Democracy Day provides an opportunity for Nigerians to reflect on the nation’s democratic journey, appreciate the sacrifices of the country’s democratic heroes, and renew their commitment to the ideals of good governance, peace, justice, and national unity.
She said, “On behalf of the Governing Council led by Hon. Yakubu Dati, Management, staff and students of Federal Polytechnic Ayede, I warmly congratulate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the government and good people of Nigeria on the occasion of the 2026 Democracy Day celebration.”
Dr. Adepoju noted that democracy remains the most viable system for fostering inclusiveness, accountability, and citizen participation in governance, adding that the gains recorded since the return to democratic rule should inspire Nigerians to continue supporting efforts aimed at strengthening democratic institutions.
Dr. Adepoju expressed concern over the security challenges confronting some parts of the country and called on all Nigerians, irrespective of ethnic, religious, or political affiliations, to unite in the fight against insecurity.
“The security of our nation is a collective responsibility. We must work together, support lawful authorities, provide useful information where necessary, and promote peaceful coexistence in our communities. Only through unity of purpose can we effectively tackle insecurity and create an environment conducive to growth and development,” she said.
Dr. Adepoju further urged citizens to embrace the national security mantra, “If you see something, say something,” stressing that timely reporting of suspicious activities to relevant security agencies could help prevent crimes and strengthen efforts to safeguard lives and property.
“Every Nigerian has a role to play in ensuring a safer society. We should not remain silent when we observe suspicious movements or activities around us. By embracing the ‘If you see something, say something’ mantra, we can collectively support our security agencies in protecting our communities and our nation,” she added.
Dr. Adepoju also urged Nigerian youths to embrace education, innovation, entrepreneurship, and patriotism as tools for national transformation, stressing that the future of the country depends largely on the positive contributions of its younger generation.
She reaffirmed Federal Polytechnic Ayede’s commitment to producing skilled manpower and promoting technological advancement through quality technical and vocational education.
She prayed for continued peace, progress, and prosperity for Nigeria, expressing optimism that the country would overcome its current challenges and emerge stronger.
